Who We Are?
YIMU is a newly established Chinese tea space in York.
We are still learning and growing, step by step.
Chinese tea has a history of more than three thousand years.
Introducing it thoughtfully into British life, however, requires time and care.
In traditional China there is a saying:
“The seven necessities of daily life are firewood, rice, oil, salt, sauce, vinegar — and tea.”
Tea is not a luxury. It is part of everyday living.
At YIMU, we hope to share this quiet understanding — not through grand claims, but through carefully prepared tea and unhurried conversation.
Our name
YIMU draws inspiration from the Tang dynasty tea scholar 陆羽, author of 茶经.
In the text appears the line:
“In the South grows a fine tree; its name is tea.”
Tea, at its origin, is simply a tree — natural and enduring.
We hope YIMU grows in the same way — steadily and patiently.
Why York
We chose York as our starting point because it is a city with history and proportion.
From Roman foundations to medieval streets and a strong academic presence, York understands time.
It feels like a place where things can grow properly.
We are not in a hurry to expand.
Our focus is to do the present work well.
From York, we hope to grow steadily — and in time, go further.
